NY Times Reading Log
I thought the Times was detailed and interesting today! There were two follow up stories; one about illegal immigrants and the other about Amanda Knox’s murder conviction.
I really enjoyed the follow up with the story about illegal immigrants in today’s paper. In Alabama, the law has gotten stricter and police now have the right to ask immigrants for immigration papers and it has caused many Hispanic residents, both legal and illegal, to flee. The town has already started to feel the loss of people in the town by having fewer students in school and more job openings, as jobs are left vacant. I think this law is awful, taking a toll on the economy and forcing people to pack up and move. While the intentions behind the law are understandable, it is not the right time to enforce these rules.
There is an article on an ozone hole on page A9, said to be caused by the lingering CFCs throughout the 20th century. Scary to think that the actions of years before still have an effect on the environment today!!
