NY Times Log 10/11
It’s hard to say whether the decision to start drug testing those who are on welfare is a good decision. At first when I was reading this article, my automatic answer was no way! But the reasons behind it really make sense. Why should we aid people who spend their money and time investment in drugs? This decision would not have even been considered if the economy isn’t the way it is – we need to save on as much money as possible.
I was really intrigued by the article about the stutterer; especially since I want to be a teacher, I can’t believe a teacher would actually tell a kid to stop participating because of his problem! I understand how he might cause the class to move a little slower but there are such different ways to go about this problem. Maybe he a one on one aid could have helped him, or something. I have had students with disabilities in my classes all my life and I’ve never seen a teacher treat someone that way.
