NY Times Log 11/9

After reading the article “Arm in Arm”, about Occupy Wall Street and the measures that the unions are taking to support the protestors in their actions to demand equality, I seriously wondered why I wasn’t there protesting with them. It seems as though more and more people are joining the movement: whether it’s giving the protestors food and shelter, joining them, or even supporting them via social networking on Twitter or Tumblr. The president of the union that represents health care workers said that “it is a dream come to true to have young people speak out”. This is my future at stake, too! I think it is important for UNH students to play a role and wonder why there aren’t more people from this area protesting in Washington. I am tempted to go now.
The article about Paterno, the college Penn State football coach, is being forced to leave because of a sexual abuse scandal. What I did not like about this article was that it was not really clear of the allegations of sexual abuse or why specifically he is being asked to leave. The story was more of a profile, describing the highlights of Paterno’s life and his successes and contributions to Penn State. The journalist made him out to be a good-natured, almost heroic figure. My question is, what happened? If he is such a success story and people are so sad to see him leave, there must be more to the story that needs to be dug up.
